Dirt Bikes are a fun way to explore and get into off-roading. Dirt bikes are popular in all age groups from kids to adults. But when it comes to dirt bikes there are lots of bikes with different top speeds (CCs). As the displacement of the dirt bike varies so does the top speed. That’s why in this post, I will discuss the “average dirt bike top speed” for the various displacements. It will help the riders to choose the right CCs dirt bike for them.
The dirt bike can achieve an average top speed of 40 mph to 70 mph. The top speed of the dirt bike greatly depends on engine displacement, strokes (2 strokes vs 4 strokes), and the weight of the rider.
Dirt Bike Average top speed Chart by CCs:-
In this “dirt bike top speed table chart”, I have discussed various CCs dirt bikes that range from 50cc to 450cc.
Dirt bike CCs | Top speed |
50cc | 25mph – 40mph |
80cc | 40mph – 50mph |
100cc – 110cc | 45mph – 55mph |

Engine Strokes in Dirt Bikes:- How do they affect the speed?
The engine strokes are one of the most important aspects that is a deciding factor for top speed in dirt bikes. I have already talked about these engine strokes while discussing the “average top speed of motorcycles”. But, that brief introduction isn’t enough. First, I will just point out the little straightforward differences in these strokes and later explain them.
There are two engine strokes commonly 2 strokes and 4 strokes. Strokes are basically referring to the cycles of the piston or motion of a piston.
So, 2 strokes mean 2 piston cycle is needed to perform the full cycle of intake, compression, combustion, and exhaust. 4 strokes mean the piston goes up and down two times for each combustion cycle.
2 Strokes engine
The two-stroke engine provides more speed and RPM than Four-stroke engines because the combustion takes only two cycles of the piston. Thus, two-stroke engines are more powerful than Four-stroke engines.
So, if you are looking for speed, then two-stroke engines will provide more speed and RPM than the comparable cc with the Four-stroke cylinder design.
But one thing to know here is two-stroke engines are cheaper, less reliable, and less durable than Four-stroke engines. Apart from this, the two-stroke engine starts to vibrate and create a loud noise when driving at high speed.
The two-stroke engine produces a lot of pollution by releasing burnt oil and fuel into the air than the four-stroke.
4 Stroke engine
Although Four-stroke is not as fast as a Two-stroke engine, it has other advantageous factors.
A four-stroke engine is more reliable, durable, and efficient than a two-stroke engine. It is generally quieter than the Two-stroke engines, thus making it environment friendly.
Typically, four-stroke engines have more parts than two-stroke; thus, it is expensive, and maintenance costs are high.
Four-stroke engines don’t require pre-mixing of oil and fuel like two-strokes. Also, Four-stroke engines are environmentally friendly because it doesn’t release burnt oil in the air along with burnt fuel like Two-stroke engines.
Thus, the final verdict is that you can go with the Two-stroke engine if you are looking for speed. But if you are looking for reliability, durability, and efficiency then go with Four-stroke engines.
As for now, I have provided the required information regarding the engine-stroked dirt bikes. Now, I will be discussing the main topic of this article. We will be talking about, “how fast do these dirt bikes go?”.
